Silver and Gold Business Cards

1. What is Gold Plastic and Silver Plastic?
Gold Plastic is a solid metallic gold plastic in a business card size of 3.39×2.12 inches. The Gold Plastic has a strong coloring similar to a shade known as old gold. Silver Plastic is a solid metallic silver plastic in a business card size of 3.30×2.12 inches. Silver Plastic has more of a silver gray color. Both Silver and Gold plastic automatically have round corners.

2. What type of plastic is the Gold and Silver Plastic?
Both the Gold and Silver Plastics are made of an environmentally friendly material, known as PET. The PET material makes them ultra thin, waterproof, bendable and difficult to break. However, since they are made of PET plastic, these cards are prone to scratching. Scratches on Silver Plastic tend to be more visible than the scratches on Gold Plastic so they will need extra care.
Cleaning these business cards is easy. Simply use a soft fabric to remove any extra fingerprints which show up.

3. How reflective are the Silver and Gold Plastic?
Both plastics look metallic. However, the Silver Plastic is the most reflective. It has enough shine to be used as a mirror. The Gold Plastic has a soft glow/shine. It is no where near as brilliant as the Silver Plastic.

4. What type of design styles work well on Gold and Silver?
In general, simple and large designs work best on both the Gold and Silver plastic. Their natural coloring is so bold that simpler designs complement the color without overwhelming the cards.

Gold and Plastic Family Promo
The type of styles which go best with the Gold Plastic are geometric, or text based designs, where the color is the central focus. Simplistic and angular designs allow the boldness of the card to stand out without creating an overwhelming effect. A complex design looks best when it is not filled in.

Gold and Plastic Silver Family Promo
The styles which go best with Silver Plastic are modern, edgy, tech-y, and high end. A design concept we usually see with the Silver Plastic is to print a background color, and have the text shine through in the original Silver.

5. What colors look best on them?
Both plastics have strong coloring, and the final printing of colors will be altered. Black is the best color to use on both the Gold and Silver Plastics.

Gold and Plastic Complex Design Promo
It would do well to keep in mind that bright greens and reds print well on the Gold Plastic.

Gold and Plastic Orange Silver Promo
Silver is able to print colors better than Gold. Blue tends to create an edgier and more modern look on the Silver Plastic. Orange and red also print well, but they do not come up often in designs.

New Products: Hologram Paper and Hologram Plastic Business Cards

Announcing our newest products, Hologram Paper and Hologram Plastic Business Cards.

About Hologram Paper:
Hologram Paper is a creamy white paper with a hologram coating on both sides. The hologram has all the colors of the rainbow, just like our other hologram products, Hologram Plastic and Hologram Plus Plastic. However, compared to them, the hologram is much softer.

Hologram Photograph

The hologram will be especially noticeable against dark backgrounds and dark colors.
This paper is especially good at printing photographs, but keep in mind that these photographs will have hologram finish placed on top of them.

Hologram Dark Background

At 14pt, which is the standard thickness of a business card, however Hologram Paper feels a little thicker in your hand due to it’s hologram coating. The coating also ensures that it will be durable and not easily torn.
To view the hologram on our paper business cards, click here

About Hologram Plastic:
Like our other plastic business cards, Hologram Plastic is made of PET plastic, which is a recyclable plastic. It is quite thin, being the same thinness as the plastic of a water bottle.
This plastic is made with a sharp, gridlock pattern of hologram on both sides of the plastic. The hologram pattern is similar to the pattern of our Hologram Plus Plastic.

Hologram Plastic

Instead of having a white rectangle, like what is found on Hologram Plus Plastic, the Hologram Plastic has custom white ink. The custom white ink can be placed wherever it is necessary in the design. However, it is important to note that the hologram is quite strong and can show slightly through the white ink.

Vintage Kraft

Vintage Kraft is made of recycled paper pulp creating eco-friendly paper for business cards. Since it is made of recycled pulp, at times it is possible to feel a hairy texture on this paper. It also has a rich brown color, similar to the color of cardboard. Due to its dark coloring, black prints the best of all the other color choices.

Design & Style Advice: Spring Trends

Design Elements

1. Large Fonts
Large simple typography dominates the designs of most business cards. We are seeing these large fonts mainly used in company names on business cards. While usually printed with ink, this design element can also be done in one of our finishing options, such as Foiling or Blind Press Embossing.

Spring Trends 2018 Large Font

From top to bottom: Heavy Nouveau, Standard Uncoated and Heavy Nouveau with Blind Press Embossing

2. Geometric Style
Geometric angles and designs are still going strong from last Fall. Geometric designs are not just restricted to patterns, they can also be done to create specific shapes and pictures. Geometric designs are usually clean and modern but can adapt to the branding of your business card. For the most part, geometric designs are done in Foiling to add an extra wow factor.

3. Mini Cards
Custom sized business cards are in style more than ever. From slim to square, businesses are looking to customize even their business card size. Although just about every size is possible, the most popular size is a square, 2×2. With just about every finishing option from raised ink to laser cutting available to them, these small cards live up to the phrase “big things in little packages”.

4. Leah Trib Productions
This design, which is well done by Leah Trib Productions is an excellent example of the latest design trend. The trend is created by focusing on the contact information. The design is geometric by including brackets to explain which type of information corresponds to what form of communication. In order to be executed properly, it needs several components to match such as: the company email, company website, and the social media account.

5. Foiling
Foiling in general is still the most popular finishing option for designers and clients. The latest trend show designs require foiling with an exact alignment. Designs with exact foiling locations are possible but need to be reviewed and approved by our printing team.
Designs are also utilizing foiling colors other than the neutral gold, silver and bronze more often. We are mainly seeing blue, green and red foiling colors come up in the newest designs, but pink is making appearances as well.

6. Raised Ink
Raised ink, also known as thermography, is also quite popular and we can see it continue to be used in designs. Usually used in text and in logos, raised ink creates both a visual and tactile experience for whoever holds the business card. However, we are now seeing raised ink used to create subtle, and ingenious designs. The latest surprising use of Raised Ink was to create an intricate pattern across the side of the business card. Difficult to see, the intricate pattern of raised ink recreated the feel of texture on one side of the business card.

Spring Trends 2018 Raised Ink

7. Thick cards
Thick business cards are in as high demand as ever. Rigid and stiff, thick business cards are synonymous with luxury and high end. At 32 pt, Sumo Nouveau is the thickest business card we offer. With such a thickness, it is possible to both see and feel the thick edge of these business cards. A creamy white matte paper, it does not have any shine or shimmer.

8. Using different materials
Since late summer, the idea of using some material other than paper for business cards is growing in popularity. Our response to this trend are our plastic business cards. We offer a wide range from white, clear to hologram and metallic plastic business cards. All are made of PET plastic, which is an environmentally friendly material.

9. Die Cutting
Now more than ever, business cards are meant to reflect your business’ branding and Die Cuts are the best way to achieve that level of customization. Although automatically done on Standard Coated 14pt Matte paper, it is possible to do a custom die cut on another type of paper. However the printing team will need to review and approve of the paper selection. We offer a range of Die Cut shapes to choose from, but can also do completely custom shapes and sizes. There is no set up fee for our Die Cuts.

10. Spot UV
A flat lamination, Spot UV is glossy and transparent, allowing designated sections of design and color to show through. Due to it’s glossy nature, Spot UV will make the ink printed color appear more saturated (or darker). Another popular selection of many clients and designers, Spot UV is now used to create unique designs ranging from the more subtle (like the watch in the picture below) to the bold (like the hot pink card below).

What You Need to Know: Clear Plastic Business Cards

The Clear Plastic Family from MorningPrint consists of Clear Plastic (No White Ink), Clear+White Plastic, Clear Plus Plastic, Opaque White Plastic. All these plastic business cards have several characteristics in common.

1. PET Plastic- All our clear plastics are made of PET plastic, which is an environmentally friendly plastic, which is the same thinness as the plastic of a water bottle.

2. As a plastic, these business cards are prone to scratching, especially when rubbed against surfaces or each other consistently. For the best care of these business cards we recommend keeping them in their storage boxes and only take them out when you need them.

3. Due to their clarity, transparent plastic business cards can only accommodate a single sided design because a double sided design will overlap creating not design and legibility issues.

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards (No White Ink) Nail Polish Edited

Clear Plastic (No White Ink)
Clear Plastic (No White Ink) is a completely clear plastic business card. It as clear as looking through a glass window. In order to maintain this level of transparency, we need to use transparent ink. That means your designs will also be see through.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind when using this product:

1. Thin fonts, light colors and small details are all difficult to view on this card.
2. This clear business card has a very clean feeling to it due to it’s transparency. Therefore, simple designs with plenty of clear space tend to pop more with this busienss card.
3. MorningPrint’s design advice for this type of business card is to utilize rich black through out most of the design as it can appear almost solid. Rich black color values would be-
C:20% M:20% Y:20% K:100%
In order to accommodate color, we suggest using them as accents in your design for either art or on information which is not the most important.

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards +White Nail Polish Edited

Clear+White Plastic
Clear+White Plastic products are the same clear material as the Clear Plastic (No White Ink) meaning it has the same clarity as looking through a window. To maintain this level of transparency, we also use transparent ink. The main difference between these two clear plastic business cards is that Clear+White Plastic is able to print white ink on to designs.
The special part about our white ink is that it can be printed as is on the card, or it can be used to go behind your colored ink design in order to create a solid design against a clear card. In adding white ink behind your design, you will also be increasing legibility on your card. In order to indicate what part of your design should include white ink, you will need to submit a second design file where all white ink areas will be designed in all black.
If you do not wish to incorporate white ink behind your design, all printed areas without white ink will be the same printing result as if the design was printed on Clear Plastic (No White Ink).

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards Opaque Nail Polish Edited

Opaque White Plastic
Opaque White Plastic is a sheer translucent card with slight white ink throughout. It is an excellent choice for intricate designs incorporating many small details and thin fonts. It also prints simple designs relying on a white ink background quite well.

The white tint throughout the business card makes any design printed on it pop a bit more. Colors will appear more saturated in the final printing result compared to the Clear Plastics.

As for it’s transparency, if someone looks through the card, objects close by will be very easy to see, but objects far away will be difficult to see.

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards Plus Nail Polish Edited

Clear Plus Plastic
Clear Plus Plastic is a solid white rectangle with a clear border. However, it should not be mistaken for a solid card, as it is still a clear business card with the ability for single side printing. The white rectangle centered in this card actually resembles our Opaque White Plastic, which allows light and images to shine through a translucent white background.
This card is also an excellent choice for those who small details or intricate designs. However, it also has a very clean feel to it, like the Clear Plastics (No White Ink), so the final printing result of simple designs with wide space for the material to shine through will pop more.

Design & Style Advice: Pantone Spring 2018 Colors and Your Business Cards

With a new season comes a new set of color trends from Pantone and that means new color ideas for your business cards. While not all of Pantone’s Spring 2018 colors are being primarily used in business cards, most of them have been appearing in the most recent designs. Shades of navy and pink are still the two most popular colors for Spring, but we have new colors making an impact on business card designs as well.

It is important to remember that as a CMYK printer, attempting to recreate a Pantone color will not always be as exact and accurate as sticking with Pantone. But, if you are careful, you can get fairly close to Pantone’s trending colors for Spring 2018. Let’s get started.

1. Cherry Red is an orange-y red brings its energy to spring as well. Although it is not used in business cards often, when used it brings a bold punch and demands your attention.

Pantone Cherry Tomato

2. Little Boy Blue is a soft yet medium blue which gives a brightness to any business card design. A newer color for spring, this blue is used in many of our recent orders. While the brightness of the blue seems a bit casual, in smaller doses it can easily look professional for those in a more conservative line of work.

3. Sailor Blue is a deep navy color, works as a neutral for a classic and rich look. This navy coloring is probably one of the most popular business card colors we have seen, still coming in strong from Winter. A clear favorite of those with a corporate card styling, it looks professional, timeless and trustworthy.

4. Arcadia is a shade of green which resembles teal. This shade of green is becoming more popular  this season. A good up and coming color to incorporate into business card for a cooler, cleaner and more modern look.

5. Harbor Mist is soft gray creating a subtle elegant and confident business card. Another favorite among corporate style cards this light gray adds enough professionalism without looking too dark. It is a no nonsense color while remaining fresh.

6. Lime Punch is a sharp neon yellow, and like most strong colors is not used often in business cards. But in certain designs, using this color in small details or as an accent or even as a small card, can give an youthful, energetic feel.

7. Chili Oil is a brown with red tones. It offers a rich and off beat color to business cards. It looks earthy and natural. We have begun to see this color come up little by little in business cards. It is an excellent choice for those with an edgy, eccentric, and more funky design.

8. Almost Mauve is an excellent option for an off white or cream coloring. It’s light ivory with soft undertones of pink creates a business card suited for delicate and fresh business card designs. This is a truly soft coloring which sometimes requires specific lighting to really notice the pink undertones.

9. Blooming Dahlia is a coral color with stronger pink undertones to keep it from being too bright. It is a fun color that brings cheer and energy to any business card. A color that is not normally used, it automatically stands out from other designs.

Pantone Blooming Dahlia

10. Spring Crocus is a spring-y and flamboyant shade of purple for those with a fresh business card. Not commonly used, it is a more casual color for those with less of a conservative line of work.

11. Pink Lavender is true to it’s name and looks like a pink-y lavender. It looks like spring and freshness. An update to the pink shades from the past seasons, this color will add softness to any business card design.

What You Need to Know: Frosty Plastic

Frosty Plastic is our plastic with the fastest production timeline. It only takes two business days for stamping the foiling on and an additional two business days for delivery.

Frosty Plastic is environmentally friendly
Like the majority of our plastic products, Frosty Plastic is made of PET material. PET plastic is an environmentally friendly material. It is the same material that water bottles are made from. Some of it’s characteristics include being quite thin, light weight, and flexible.

IMG_20180212_134749_575

Frosty means it is not crystal clear
The part of the name ‘Frosty’ has been confusing to some clients. Some believe there is a possibility it has a tint of white ink, which is not true (or possible). In fact, Frosty Plastic is a clear plastic business card. However, rather than being crystal clear, like looking through a window, it is blurry. As a transparent card, Frosty Plastic can only accommodate single sided designs.
Click here to view the blurry transparent quality of our Frosty Plastic

Only one Foiling color is possible in Frosty Plastic (that means no ink printing)

Another point of confusion for those interested in these cards is that Frosty Plastic can only print one color of foiling. That means your whole design will be done in the foiling you pick. As such, ink printing, gradients and shading are not possible in this product.

Wide Foiling Areas are Prone to Fading Away
Wide or large foiling designs are at a high risk of oxidation. Oxidation means that the foiling is peeling off the plastic stock. The peeling will reveal the transparent plastic stock underneath. It will look worn out as if the cards are old and worn from use.
If you must have a wide foiling area, our printing team will need to review your file and discuss the risk with you before printing.

Thinner and Smaller Design Elements are Welcomed
Normally, we try to warn clients that by using thin and small design elements and fonts their information could be difficult to see and read, especially on our Clear Plastic (No White Ink). However, our foiling is stamped on, and the colors of the foiling can not be altered. Therefore we can guarantee legibility for smaller and thinner design elements, even against the transparent background of the Frosty Plastic.

Tips to Keep in Mind When Designing a Business Card

Creating the right business card for your business is not a simple task. It is not just about creating a unique design, it has to be the right design which not only represents your business, but will also serve it’s purpose of carrying information. Here are some tips from MorningPrint of what to keep in mind when designing your business card.

business card design blue saint james

Make Your Information the Star
Keep your information the focal point of your design by incorporating large fonts. Make sure the coloring is not too subtle, so that it stands out from the background. We also recommend using simple, crisp fonts over fancy or complicated ones. By keeping the text information the focal point of your card, you are ensuring that your information is successfully passed on through your business card. If you must use a smaller or thinner font, then we strongly recommend using stamped Foiling on your text to ensure legibility.

business card design pink die cut

Research before you buy
Each printing company has their own requirements for submitting files for printing. However, most printing companies use CMYK ink. Therefore, your design should be set to CMYK color settings.
You should also keep in mind that commercial printers require a good quality printing file. That means the resolution of your design should be set to at least 300 dpi. A low quality printing file leads to bad prints jobs, like blurriness.

business card design checkers

Try incorporating your branding into your card
Integrating your company’s brand into your business card is an easy way to promote your company’s message. You can do this by using the company colors or by using a certain font of your text. If you have the space, you can also incorporate small design elements that will accentuate your information. For example, the above card is for a beauty salon and they incorporate lips into their business card.

business card design black paper

Have a reason to use special effects
Every so often we get a client who wants to use Foiling, Spot UV, and Embossing all on one side of their design. It seems to be a common misconception that the more special effects used makes your card more special. The opposite is actually true. Too many special effects can be distracting from the information of your business card.

Follow the example for the business card above, which is for a graphic designer. He has Black Paper, which only allows foiling for his information. Since his text is foiled, he used a smaller font. And he kept the main focus on his laser cut logo. It is simple and natural.

business card design one and only

Rely on the material itself
If you stay patient and use your time researching the different products that we offer, you will able to pick up on which type of paper or plastic is best suited to your design.
For example the above card uses Heavy Nouveau paper with Bronze Foiling, Blind Press Embossing and a Hole Punch. But when you look at the card, you are still able to see the elegant, creamy white characteristics of the paper.
