Eco-friendly Business Cards and Stickers All

MorningPrint has several environmentally friendly options to choose from in both our paper and plastic selections. Ranging in color, texture and material, they each have their own characteristics.

1. Vintage Kraft

Eco-friendly Business Cards and Stickers Vintage Kraft

Vintage Kraft

Vintage Kraft is made of recycled paper pulp creating eco-friendly paper for business cards. Since it is made of recycled pulp, at times it is possible to feel a hairy texture on this paper. It also has a rich brown color, similar to the color of cardboard. Due to its dark coloring, black prints the best of all the other color choices.

We have also turned Vintage Kraft into a sticker, becoming one of the two eco-friendly sticker options from MorningPrint. It is also possible to choose this paper for both our post card sizes, 4×6 and 5×7.
An excellent finishing option choice for this business card is Foiling.

Aquarelle with Raised Ink

A matte, creamy white textured paper Aquarelle and it’s thicker partner Heavy Aquarelle are another option for eco-friendly business cards. Both have received a certificate with a five star rating from the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) saying these papers meet their standards for forest management. As a watercolor paper, both absorb color well and reflect watercolor designs the best.
Aquarelle is available in our postcard sizes 4×6 and 5×7.
Our favorite finishing option to pair with this paper is Raised Ink.

3. Yupo

Eco-friendly Business Cards and Stickers Yupo

Yupo

Yupo is a creamy white synthetic paper, which makes it an eco-friendly business card. Ironically, it does not have natural paper feel as it is cool to the touch and quite smooth.
At 9pt it is also our thinnest paper selection for environmentally friendly business cards. However, it is also our most durable because it is both waterproof and tear proof.
This paper was also made into a sticker, called Durable Sticker, for our strongest sticker and second eco-friendly sticker option.

Contrary to popular belief, the majority of our plastic business cards are made of PET plastic. PET plastic is recognized as a safe, non-toxic,  lightweight and flexible material that is 100% recyclable. This material is very thin, around the thinness of a water bottle.

Design & Style Advice: Spring Trends

Design Elements

1. Large Fonts
Large simple typography dominates the designs of most business cards. We are seeing these large fonts mainly used in company names on business cards. While usually printed with ink, this design element can also be done in one of our finishing options, such as Foiling or Blind Press Embossing.

Spring Trends 2018 Large Font

From top to bottom: Heavy Nouveau, Standard Uncoated and Heavy Nouveau with Blind Press Embossing

2. Geometric Style
Geometric angles and designs are still going strong from last Fall. Geometric designs are not just restricted to patterns, they can also be done to create specific shapes and pictures. Geometric designs are usually clean and modern but can adapt to the branding of your business card. For the most part, geometric designs are done in Foiling to add an extra wow factor.

3. Mini Cards
Custom sized business cards are in style more than ever. From slim to square, businesses are looking to customize even their business card size. Although just about every size is possible, the most popular size is a square, 2×2. With just about every finishing option from raised ink to laser cutting available to them, these small cards live up to the phrase “big things in little packages”.

4. Leah Trib Productions
This design, which is well done by Leah Trib Productions is an excellent example of the latest design trend. The trend is created by focusing on the contact information. The design is geometric by including brackets to explain which type of information corresponds to what form of communication. In order to be executed properly, it needs several components to match such as: the company email, company website, and the social media account.

Product Options

5. Foiling
Foiling in general is still the most popular finishing option for designers and clients. The latest trend show designs require foiling with an exact alignment. Designs with exact foiling locations are possible but need to be reviewed and approved by our printing team.
Designs are also utilizing foiling colors other than the neutral gold, silver and bronze more often. We are mainly seeing blue, green and red foiling colors come up in the newest designs, but pink is making appearances as well.

6. Raised Ink
Raised ink, also known as thermography, is also quite popular and we can see it continue to be used in designs. Usually used in text and in logos, raised ink creates both a visual and tactile experience for whoever holds the business card. However, we are now seeing raised ink used to create subtle, and ingenious designs. The latest surprising use of Raised Ink was to create an intricate pattern across the side of the business card. Difficult to see, the intricate pattern of raised ink recreated the feel of texture on one side of the business card.

7. Thick cards
Thick business cards are in as high demand as ever. Rigid and stiff, thick business cards are synonymous with luxury and high end. At 32 pt, Sumo Nouveau is the thickest business card we offer. With such a thickness, it is possible to both see and feel the thick edge of these business cards. A creamy white matte paper, it does not have any shine or shimmer.

8. Using different materials
Since late summer, the idea of using some material other than paper for business cards is growing in popularity. Our response to this trend are our plastic business cards. We offer a wide range from white, clear to hologram and metallic plastic business cards. All are made of PET plastic, which is an environmentally friendly material.

9. Die Cutting
Now more than ever, business cards are meant to reflect your business’ branding and Die Cuts are the best way to achieve that level of customization. Although automatically done on Standard Coated 14pt Matte paper, it is possible to do a custom die cut on another type of paper. However the printing team will need to review and approve of the paper selection. We offer a range of Die Cut shapes to choose from, but can also do completely custom shapes and sizes. There is no set up fee for our Die Cuts.

10. Spot UV
A flat lamination, Spot UV is glossy and transparent, allowing designated sections of design and color to show through. Due to it’s glossy nature, Spot UV will make the ink printed color appear more saturated (or darker). Another popular selection of many clients and designers, Spot UV is now used to create unique designs ranging from the more subtle (like the watch in the picture below) to the bold (like the hot pink card below).

What You Need to Know: Clear Plastic Business Cards

The Clear Plastic Family from MorningPrint consists of Clear Plastic (No White Ink), Clear+White Plastic, Clear Plus Plastic, Opaque White Plastic. All these plastic business cards have several characteristics in common.

1. PET Plastic- All our clear plastics are made of PET plastic, which is an environmentally friendly plastic, which is the same thinness as the plastic of a water bottle.

2. As a plastic, these business cards are prone to scratching, especially when rubbed against surfaces or each other consistently. For the best care of these business cards we recommend keeping them in their storage boxes and only take them out when you need them.

3. Due to their clarity, transparent plastic business cards can only accommodate a single sided design because a double sided design will overlap creating not design and legibility issues.

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards (No White Ink) Nail Polish Edited

Clear Plastic (No White Ink)
Clear Plastic (No White Ink) is a completely clear plastic business card. It as clear as looking through a glass window. In order to maintain this level of transparency, we need to use transparent ink. That means your designs will also be see through.
There are a couple of things to keep in mind when using this product:

1. Thin fonts, light colors and small details are all difficult to view on this card.
2. This clear business card has a very clean feeling to it due to it’s transparency. Therefore, simple designs with plenty of clear space tend to pop more with this busienss card.
3. MorningPrint’s design advice for this type of business card is to utilize rich black through out most of the design as it can appear almost solid. Rich black color values would be-
C:20% M:20% Y:20% K:100%
In order to accommodate color, we suggest using them as accents in your design for either art or on information which is not the most important.

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards +White Nail Polish Edited

Clear+White Plastic
Clear+White Plastic products are the same clear material as the Clear Plastic (No White Ink) meaning it has the same clarity as looking through a window. To maintain this level of transparency, we also use transparent ink. The main difference between these two clear plastic business cards is that Clear+White Plastic is able to print white ink on to designs.
The special part about our white ink is that it can be printed as is on the card, or it can be used to go behind your colored ink design in order to create a solid design against a clear card. In adding white ink behind your design, you will also be increasing legibility on your card. In order to indicate what part of your design should include white ink, you will need to submit a second design file where all white ink areas will be designed in all black.
If you do not wish to incorporate white ink behind your design, all printed areas without white ink will be the same printing result as if the design was printed on Clear Plastic (No White Ink).

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards Opaque Nail Polish Edited

Opaque White Plastic
Opaque White Plastic is a sheer translucent card with slight white ink throughout. It is an excellent choice for intricate designs incorporating many small details and thin fonts. It also prints simple designs relying on a white ink background quite well.

The white tint throughout the business card makes any design printed on it pop a bit more. Colors will appear more saturated in the final printing result compared to the Clear Plastics.

As for it’s transparency, if someone looks through the card, objects close by will be very easy to see, but objects far away will be difficult to see.

What You Need to Know Clear Plastic Business Cards Plus Nail Polish Edited

Clear Plus Plastic
Clear Plus Plastic is a solid white rectangle with a clear border. However, it should not be mistaken for a solid card, as it is still a clear business card with the ability for single side printing. The white rectangle centered in this card actually resembles our Opaque White Plastic, which allows light and images to shine through a translucent white background.
This card is also an excellent choice for those who small details or intricate designs. However, it also has a very clean feel to it, like the Clear Plastics (No White Ink), so the final printing result of simple designs with wide space for the material to shine through will pop more.

Clear Plastic is like looking through a glass, and every part of your design that has white ink will be clear. We recommend avoiding soft colors and thin fonts as this could create an issue with legibility. We do offer a clear plastic which can print white ink, it is called Clear+White Plastic. To learn more about these two plastics, read Clear Plastic Business Cards.
Opaque White Plastic has a thin layer of white ink to the entire card which is ideal for those with many small, white details. Meanwhile the Frosty Plastic is slightly thicker than the other plastic cards, and can only do foiling, no ink printing.

Silver Pearl
Silver Plastic Family includes several types of metallic plastic cards. The solid silver plastic card is as reflective as a mirror while other silver plastic cards have sparkling glitter throughout the cards. Read our What You Need to Know: Silver Plastics to learn more. The Gold Plastic Family involves solid gold as well as gold plastic cards with sparkling glitter, both solid and transparent. Read What You Need to Know: the Gold Plastic Family for more details.

These shapes are automatically printed on the Standard Coated 14pt Matte, but you can choose any type of paper you like for our Die Cuts. Doing so, will alter the price, but it is possible. If a paper that is compatible with Raised Ink is chosen, we are able to add this finishing option to your order as well. Finishing options offered with the Standard Coated 14pt Matte include foiling, embossing and spot uv. If you wish to learn more about our Die Cuts, please read Die Cuts: The Most Customizable Cards.

What You Need to Know: Gold Plastic Family

Our second metallic plastic family are our Gold Plastics. Like our Silver Plastic Family, our Gold Plastics are made of PET material. PET material is an environmentally friendly plastic. As such, our Gold Plastic Family is ultra thin, flexible, waterproof and difficult to break. They all share some similar qualities, which I have listed out below:

1. All our Gold Plastic Family have some sort of reflection or shimmer characteristic.
2. Due to the strong gold coloring, it is important to note that the final printing will be altered
3. The Gold Plastic Family has round corners.
4. The best color to use on all our Gold Plastics is black, because this metallic plastic family has a rich coloring.

Gold Plastic

Gold Plastic is a solid metallic gold plastic and is highly reflective with a rich gold coloring. It is unable to print white ink, meaning that any aspect of your design which incorporates white will show the metallic gold of the plastic card. The designs which work well with this plastic card are large and simple. The type of styles which go best with the characteristics of this card are geometric and art deco. Such simplistic and angular designs allow the boldness of the card stand out without being overwhelmed. Although black is the best coloring for this type of plastic stock, it would do well to keep in mind that bright greens and reds print well against the gold coloring of this card.

Gold Plus Plastic-white

Gold Plus Plastic is the most customizable silver plastic we offer. This card is made up exactly like the Gold Plastic, the only difference being it has a white rectangle allowing it to print white ink. Due to the strong coloring of the Gold Plus Plastic, the white rectangle is not a bright, crisp white. It is actually an off-white with a pinkish undertone.

Although it automatically comes as a plastic card with a white rectangle and gold border, the white ink is highly customizable. The white ink can be isolated to certain areas of your design, revealing the gold plastic on the rest of your card. Unless one is skilled at Photoshop or Illustrator, we would recommend contracting a designer to create a custom white ink design for you for our Gold Plus Plastic cards.

Gold Pearl Plastic

Gold Pearl Plastic is smooth to the touch, but covered in glitter. A slightly brighter gold compared to the other gold plastics it still darkens the shade of any color printed on it. Due to the blend of the sparkle and gold coloring, black ink against the Gold Pearl Plastic is enough to stand out without looking busy. No white ink is possible on this plastic, meaning that the glittery gold will be revealed in place of any white aspect of your design.

Sheer Gold Pearl Plastic

Sheer Gold Pearl Plastic is a transparent card with a bright gold coloring and shimmer. The amount of its transparency alters greatly depending under which light you hold it under. Under some lighting it is as transparent as its counterpart in the silver plastic family. In other lighting situations this plastic stock looks almost solid due to the strong coloring and bold shimmer. It still shows objects directly in front of it with great clarity. We recommend avoiding thin, and light colored designs because they will not be visible against this color. This plastic does not print any white ink, any part of your design with white ink will reveal the gold color stock.
Click here to watch a video of the transparency of our Sheer Gold Pearl Plastic.

What You Need to Know: Silver Plastics

To start, MorningPrint‘s Silver Plastic family is all made of PET material, which is an environmentally friendly plastic. This makes them all ultra thin, waterproof, bendable and difficult to break. A couple of important design matters to keep in mind are the following:
1. All of our silver plastic options have some sort of reflection or sparkle characteristic, whether it is shining like a mirror or subtle sparkles.
2. It is important to note that these products will alter the outcome of any ink printing due to their natural coloring.
3. The Silver Plastic family automatically has rounded corners.

Silver Plastic Black and Blue

Silver Plastic is a solid metallic silver plastic. It is reflective enough to be used like a mirror. It is unable to print white ink, meaning that any aspect of your design which incorporates white will show the metallic silver of the plastic card. The designs which work well with this plastic card are large and simple. The type of styles which go best with the characteristics of this card are modern, edgy, tech-y, and high end.

Silver Plastic Orange

Black ink coloring against the silver is a guaranteed out-of-box look. Another color to consider are medium to darker shades of blue. Keep in mind that the silver coloring will darken any color that is printed on these cards. Black and blue tend to create edgier and more modern looks. A color we almost never see utilized in this stock is orange. Orange stands out not only for its brightness, but also creates a funky high end look to the Silver Plastic. Keep in mind, wipe these cards down with a soft fabric to remove any extra fingerprints which may show with time.

Silver Plastic Black

Silver Plus Plastic is the most customizable silver plastic we offer. This card is made up exactly like the Silver Plastic, the only difference being it can print white ink. Although it automatically comes as a plastic card with a white rectangle and silver border, the white ink is highly customizable.

Silver Pearl Plastic

The white ink can be isolated to certain areas of your design, revealing the silver plastic on the rest of your card. Unless one is skilled at Photoshop or Illustrator, we would recommend contracting a designer to create a custom white ink design for you for our Silver Plus Plastic cards.

Silver Plus Plastic Custom White Ink

Silver Plus Plastic Custom White Ink Solid

Silver Pearl Plastic is smooth to the touch, but covered in glitter. A slightly lighter silver compared to other silver plastics it still darkens the shade of any color printed on it. Due to the blend of the sparkle and silver coloring, black ink against the Silver Pearl Plastic is enough to stand out without looking busy. No white ink is possible on this plastic, meaning that the glittery silver will be revealed in place of any white aspect of your design.

Silver Pearl Plastic Reflective

Sheer Silver Pearl Plastic is a transparent card with a light silver and gray coloring. Although not crystal clear, it is transparent, showing objects directly in front of it with great clarity. We recommend avoiding thin, and light colored designs because they will not be visible against this color. This plastic does not print any white ink, revealing the light gray-silver coloring.

Silver Pearl Sheer Plastic

Clear Plastic Business Cards

While we offer many varieties of plastic stock, the ones we get the most inquiries about are our clear plastics. We have noticed the most confusion is between our Clear (no white ink) and our Clear+White Plastic. These two plastics are the same, the only difference being that the Clear+White Plastic is able to print white ink.

20170619_152820

20170619_152754
As for their similarities, both types of cards are bendable, thin and durable. Due to the transparency of our clear cards, we strongly recommend that you avoid thin, delicate lines, soft colors and small text or graphics. As such, your transparent cards will be easier to read and see when holding it in front of another surface. Keep in mind that your printed results will not look as saturated as on your monitor and that transparent cards can only be printed on one side. Round corners are standard on our plastic cards. Both will require 4-5 business days plus 2 days shipping. We require that all designs be done on Photoshop or Illustrator files.

Clear+white plastic

20170619_162935
This is the only clear plastic that can print white ink. This card is able to print white as well as back areas of color to increase visibility of design. The printing process for our clear+white plastic cards is that the color is printed first before the white.
Advisory Note: Remember when uploading your clear+white design files, remember to include a color file and a white file. The white file should know the exact areas for white ink should be shown in black.

20170619_162741

Clear Plastic (no white ink)

20170619_162337

Our clear plastic (no white ink) stock is the only one that is 100% clear. For design legibility, please avoid designs with texts alone and no background color as well as text/graphics that are similar in background color.
Advisory Note: On our clear plastic (no white ink) stock, any white areas of your design will be left unprinted revealing the clear stock.
